13 Oct UCC and Bere Island Com­mu­ni­ty Radio joined the Irish Island Inno­va­tion Sum­mit

Grass­roots Radio’s Irish part­ners Uni­ver­si­ty Col­lege Cork (UCC) and Bere Island Com­mu­ni­ty Radio joined the Irish Island Inno­va­tion Sum­mit, which took place online between 7th and 20th Sep­tem­ber 2020. The pre­sen­ta­tion focused on the role of the radio in fos­ter­ing con­nec­tion dur­ing the COVID restric­tions.

Draw­ing on the expe­ri­ence built in the GR pro­jec­t’s Irish pilot, the account explained how the radio fos­tered a sense of belong­ing for islanders and oth­er lis­ten­ers on and off the island dur­ing the restric­tions. As we already report­ed, the radio was also used to sus­tain can­celled ser­vices such as Mass and pro­vid­ed a plat­form for school assem­blies.

Local peo­ple liv­ing in oth­er COVID affect­ed coun­tries were also inter­viewed to fos­ter a glob­al-local link.
